Painting the town green

Yasmeen Godder, you are a legend.

Inbal & Tsuf

All I need say about this dance is to describe this one moment:

Covered in green paint, spewed from the mouth of a convulsing dancer, dressed with tights over his head, flashing bicycle lights over his eyes, with crispy spaghetti for hair and oranges as hands, Tsuf Itschaky assumes a Human Fly-esque superhero image. He is ceremoniously lowered onto a ring of red jelly, and proceeds to slide around on it, as Ilaya Shalit slashes open pouches of green paint attached to her gold hotpants as a flirtatious gesture to the fly-creature. There follows an erratic orgy of slipping around on green and red gunge, switching of partners, rippling bodies and snippets of extreme facial expression.

(This ‘ere is an extract from the review I wrote for Ballet.co.uk…)

Yes. It was bloody excellent.

(go to 1:10 to see the human fly)

There you go, that’s enough culture for one eventide.

So that’s why nutjobs go to Iceland

Last night I went to The Place to see Erna Ómarsdóttir’s latest dance work, Teach Us To Outgrow Our Madness. Those of you who like to keep up to date with your Icelandic choreographers-cum-emo bands, might recognise the name from Poni, who Ómarsdóttir fronts. Usually in spandex.

Erna
Ómasdóttir’s show is weird, hairy, feminist and intense. Kind of like Bjork when she does extra weird stuff, but dance. They also do a screamo song at the end, which is always a bit of fun.

It’s on tonight too, I recommend you go and see it.

Yes. Please.

In a world where I am rich and have no cares, I am wafting my tickets to The Secret Garden Party around to bat off the flying pigs.

Here’s some of the wonderlust you might, if you’re a mug like me, be missing:

asteroids galaxy tour
Oh HI there Asteroids Galaxy Tour… Yes boys, I know.

Soko, je t’aime.

those dancing days
Those Dancing Days. I’m always tempted to sing the name of this band, á la Morrissey: “This Charming Man”. You should try it, it’s fun.

Other things you should try include:
-Spotifying the ass off these bands
-Rock climbing
-Making paella
-Sending a postcard to your Grandma
-Sewing sequins on all your clothing (heavily recommended)
-Buying me a ticket to Secret Garden Party
-If we’re on it, buying me some of those YSL cage boots and a sparkly thing to sing into

Peace and other nice things x

I’ll probably miss Graduate Fashion Week, which starts tomorrow (Earl’s Court) because I’m at my parent’s house, chilling with my (hideously overfed) cat.

Enticed by promo pictures of spherical, woolly headpieces; foot-long sequined collars and generously back-combed hair, I have had a thought….

- Are you a fashion student / graduate?
- Would you like to see your bobbly/woolly/ruffly/sequined creations on stage?

then email me, damnit!

Today’s The Day

I just had to throw up a post to say how awesome we have done tonight. A new song called ‘Today’s The Day’ has jumped over the fence into acceptably lush and we are both riding high on it. It has taken two months to work out the second verse / middle 8, and finally it has come together! - talk about tiring work!

If this album shows how much heart and how much of ourselves we have put into it it should be pretty great : )

Again, we can’t wait to get it out to you! xxxx

Gig-lik

Hey up : )
What a beaut Wednesday we had, playing our first gig as the latest line up, in the funny little Ginglik, Shepherd’s Bush. Got high on peppermint tea and honey, covered ourselves in glitter and got an amazing buzz on stage..

Kudos to cellist Oli, who missioned it back to Colchester after the gig, bassist Howie, who was doing something with a horn for Prince Charles at 6am (what?! I know..!) the next morning, and vocalist Ellie who wore a LEOTARD. Go girl. Pics to follow…

Some seriously lovely other voices flying about that room, too : ) Nice!

See you at next week’s gig…
